What to Do If You Lose Heat

Losing heat in the middle of a New England winter is no joke! If you find that your boiler isn’t working, don’t panic immediately. Use this simple checklist to troubleshoot the problem. If you still don’t have heat, call Falmouth Energy immediately at (508) 548-3200. We offer emergency service to our customers, 24/7/365.

  1. Check Your Thermostat
See if it needs new batteries. If the batteries are working, check that your thermostat is switched to HEAT and set higher than the temperature inside.
  2. Check All Switches
Make sure emergency furnace switches, fuses, and circuit breakers are all switched to “on”.
  3. Check Your Fuel Tank
Read your oil tank gauge to see if you have fuel in your tank. If not, contact Falmouth Energy right away to refill your heating oil tank. Note: Please call for oil orders when your tank is empty. Do not use our online ordering form.
  4. Hit the Rest Button
If your thermostat is working, your switches are on, and your tank has enough fuel, press the RESET button on your burner ONCE and check to see if a flame comes on. If not, DO NOT press again. Call Falmouth at (508) 548-3200.
